Project

The influence of patterns on the exchange of knowledge-in-use

Knowledge Construction Lab

Duration

March 2009 - December 2012

Funding

Federal Ministry of Education and Research, European Social Fund of the European Commission

Description

It is difficult for people to describe skills they actually know off pat. Especially large organizations often face the challenge that implicit knowledge cannot easily be transferred between practitioners as there is no possibility for direct observation of good practices and implicit knowledge often only is unconsciously.

The project aims at the investigation of how people can be supported by providing conditions for an exchange of their implicit knowledge. In this context we will investigate so-called patterns as a possibility for advancing the exchange of implicit knowledge by making implicit knowledge explicit. Patterns are an established form of templates with solutions for recurrent problems.

This Ph.D project is part of the BMBF funded project "Patterns and Tools for Non-Governmental Organizations (Patongo)".
