Organization
The Knowledge Media Research Center is one of 86 research institutions within the German Leibniz Association. Since 2001 Prof. Dr. Friedrich W. Hesse is Executive Director at the KMRC. He is being supported by a scientific council that comprises the principal research scientists of the KMRC and the head of the administration. The scientific council identifies the medium-term research and development strategy as well as current projects and activities.
KMRC Foundation Board
The Foundation Board supervises the management by governing the foundation's business. The board decides in affairs of basic relevance, particularly with regard to organization, medium-term financial planning, budget, and medium-term research and development strategy (debated by the Scientific Advisory Board).
The KMRC Foundation Board consists of five members:

KMRC Scientific Advisory Board
The Scientific Advisory Board counsels the foundation, its organs, and the KMRC in basic technical and interdisciplinary aspects of the institute's scientific and technical program, its collaborations, and its medium-term research and development strategy. The board regularly evaluates the KMRC's scientific work and advises the Foundation Board in the appointment of the Director and the executive scientists.

The KMRC cooperates with the University of Tuebingen on various levels. The
current executive director of the KMRC at the same time holds the chair of Applied
Cognitive Science and Media Psychology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen.
The appointment of professors who are in charge of a position as principal research
scientists at the KMRC is a joint venture.
The professors have the official duty to carry out the assignment as principal research
scientist at the KMRC. In this function they also assume teaching activities
at the faculties of psychology and educational science. In particular, within the ScienceCampus Tuebingen, and the Graduate School LEAD within the Excellence Initiative, the KMRC cooperates with the University of Tuebingen. Besides, the KMRC conducts
cooperative projects with associated scientists from the department of Applied
Cognitive Science and Media Psychology.
