Katharina Scheiter studierte Psychologie in Göttingen (Diplom 1999) und arbeitete dann zunächst als Stipendiatin im von der DFG geförderten Graduiertenkolleg Kognitionswissenschaft sowie anschließend als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin bis 2002 an der Universität des Saarlandes. Seit 2002 arbeitet sie als wissenschaftliche Assistentin in der Abteilung für Angewandte Kognitions- und Medienpsychologie des Psychologischen Instituts der Universität Tübingen, wo sie auch 2003 promovierte. Für Psychologie habilitierte sie sich 2009 an der Universität Tübingen mit der kumulativen Habilitationsschrift zum Thema „Theoretical and empirical foundations of theories of multimedia learning: A critical reconsideration“. Seit Anfang 2009 leitet sie am IWM eine Arbeitsgruppe, in der sie gemeinsam mit ihren Mitarbeitern kognitions- und wahrnehmungspsychologische Grundlagen des Lernens mit Multimedia untersucht. In 2009 wurde ihr der Erik de Corte Award for Young and Promising Scholars in the Science of Learning and Instruction der European Association for Learning and Instruction (EARLI) verliehen. Gemeinsam mit Erica de Vries (Universität Grenoble) koordiniert sie die Special Interest Group 2: Comprehension of Text and Graphics der EARLI.
